The plywood Filly is a small horse made primarily from thick plywood, which makes it strong enough for small children. If care is taken with the finish, it can also be a pleasing piece of furniture. It is not meant to be highly carved, just cut out, assembled by gluing, screwing and clamping, with one mortice and tenon to make, and sanded to show off the swirls of the different layers of coloured woods that make up the plywood. Use a good quality exterior ply, which is easy to obtain from builders’ merchants and DIY stores. Very durable and ideal for the novice woodworker.
